Playing with your grandkids is a great way to stay active in old age, not to mention it’s lots of fun. But occasionally it can be difficult to know what to do. Here are 7 fun ideas more exciting than simply watching TV together.
1. Bake Together
What kid doesn’t like cookies? It may get messy, but baking together is lots of fun. You’ll be teaching your grandkids a useful, life-long skill. Plus, there will be a sweet treat to eat by the end of your baking extravaganza.
2. Go on a Nature Walk
You and your grandkids will get to be active, have a chance to talk, and you can point out all the plants and wildlife you know.
3. Do a Science Experiment
From homemade lemon batteries to diet Coke and Mentos rockets, there are tons of fun, easy to do and educational experiments out there. Here are just a few.
4. Build Something Together
Kids love to build things. You could simply use Legos or K’nex to build an awesome starship or, if you have older grandchildren, get some wood and build something practical like a birdhouse. The possibilities are endless.
5. Visit a Fire Station
Many fire stations will give kids free tours. Some even let them climb the fire truck or slide down the fire pole.
6. Go to the Library
Libraries make for a convenient (and cheap) outing. Plus, you can help foster a love of reading in your grandchildren that will serve them well the rest of their lives.
7. Design a T-shirt
All you need is a couple white t-shirts and some fabric paint. It’ll make for a fun afternoon and a bright and useful memento.
