"I recommend this transport wheelchair to anyone needing something for light to moderate use."
Here are some things to consider when choosing a transport chair:
The standard transport chair features a sturdy and lightweight frame with four wheels. Transport chairs are intended to be pushed by another person.
The rollator/transport chair is a 2-in-1 product that helps promote independence and comfort. The rollator option allows users to independently push the chair and the transport chair option allows them to take a rest when they’re tired.
Shower transport chairs make it easy for caregivers to move wheelchair and bedridden patients into the shower. Mobile shower chairs typically include an open commode or commode bucket for easy toileting.
Measure the seat width of the transport chair to make sure it’ll comfortably fit you. Use a wheelchair cushion for added support and comfort.
Transport chair wheels range in size from 4” to 12”. Most of the transport chairs we carry have 8” wheels, which make them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Loop lock brakes work just like bicycle brakes; simply squeeze the handles to stop the chair. Push-down brakes are activated by pushing down onto handles. Rear wheel locks help ensure safety and keep the chair in place.
Transport chairs typically weigh from 20-25 lbs, which is light enough for most adults to lift into and out of the car during outings. This aluminum transport chair weighs less than 15 lbs, making it perfect for travel.
Some armrests flip back and/or can be completely removed to make patient transfers easier.
Most transport chairs come with height adjustable footrests that swing away for safer and easier patient transfers. Some footrests can also be removed for your convenience.
Transport chairs are designed to be portable, as they're often used for travel and public outings. A majority of them easily fold up into a compact size to fit into the trunk or backseat of your car.
Most transport chairs have a weight capacity of at least 250 lbs. Be sure to choose a chair that will not only support your own weight, but also the weight of personal items (e.g. wheelchair pouch) you may be carrying.
Keep your belongings close with a wheelchair bag or cup holder. These accessories attach easily onto transport chairs and can be quickly removed when not in use.
We carry a large selection of transport chairs to accommodate all persons with limited mobility. If you still need help choosing a transport chair, please call us at 1-888-986-0660 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
