nice fit, tiny filter pouch - but even without nose band fits nearly perfect!

People talk about masks like they are traumatic for children - and impossible to wear for any length of time. In surgery we all wear masks non-stop, and sometimes in orthopedic cases we are extremely active wrestling with difficult and heavy items - sometimes the patients themselves. But I'm preaching to the choir I guess.
Clearly masks work. The charcoal filtration inserts have to be cut to fit into the mask, I wanted my youngsters to wear masks in play and at school that protect them and their peers like our masks protect us at work (and now, in travel and outside at athletic events. - Remember - the first Italian outbreak was at a soccer match & 1/3 or so of the players came down with COVID-19. Until my youngsters are vaccinated, I want optimal protection. This is 1 step away from a professionally fitted N-95. It takes a little effort to trim the filter to fit - but you just fold it in half and insert it and then take a pen or pencil and flip the fold over up behind the nose seam - and you have a filtered, comfortable mask. My children play with them on nonstop!
People worry about all the "retained" CO2 as if it makes a difference. I'm here to tell you - after calculating "dead air space" for ventilators and oxygen masks in practice, the additional space within the mask is minimal. You have your nose, oropharynx, trachea, and bronchus passages that only hold air - full lf CO2 each exhalation and full of 21% O2 each inhalation. The fitted mask only increases the "dead air space" by less than 5%. Your oxygen saturations will only be decreased by 1-2% and you can tolerate oxygen saturations of 89-90% without noticing anything! So my children's saturations never drop to 95% even playing soccer. I'll keep these masks until everyone possible is vaccinated - and I'll keep them in these masks until the risk of death by SARS virus is minimal. And I think a 5% death rate is too high to call minimal! When it is below the yearly influenza death rates, then we'll start taking our chances without masks. Unfortunately with delta and gamma - even vaccinated we are at risk. 25% of the unvaccinated COVID-19 positives are children and I don't want to see my children in the hospital. I'd rather they be masked in school and on the sports field.
This is a great mask for such as that - it takes a little work to get the filter nice and flat - but for peace of mind and no infection even though people are positive out on the soccer fields - who can ask for more!

Fit my 5 year old, the space for filter placement is crazy tight

A nice sized mask for my 5 year old I had to take the adjustment rings off so they would fit. I put the filter in one mask with great difficulty - it is not easy with arthritis and large fingers compounding the issue! But airborne protection is the key and I know my 5 year old will touch anything and everything when I am not looking, so I at least have the airborne threat minimized with these.
